A question

03 Jul 2010 at 10:37 Denise said ....

Don't laugh at my request.

I haven't been to a party for years and yesterday I was invited to one that is happening today - I know that I need to take a bottle but should I take some flowers for the hostess or would that be a bit OTT.

Wow. Now, allowing for the fact that I am a total social incompetent, I tend to say yes. Although if everyone took flowers, it would be tricky.

Thanks for the advice Paul - I decided to try the new flower shop that has opened down the road and I now have a bouquet propped up in the bathroom basin keeping wet.

I tend to avoid parties as a couple of years ago I was conned into drinking 'non alcoholic' punch - the host lied and I drunk copious amounts of it as did some other party goers and then it seemed like a good idea to drink tequila slammers (I don't like tequila).  I was unable to walk and had to crawl everywhere, I was really sick and to get myself in a fit state to walk home (no way was I driving my car had to stay where it was) I had several rehydrating drinks poured down my neck.  My car didnt move from outside his house for a full two days.  The lying little toad had mixed orange juice, cranberry juice, fruit, whisky, vodka and gawd knows what else together - you couldnt taste the booze and I recall seeing the remnants the next day and the strawberries what were red the day before were now bleached white.  Now I rarely drink and am careful about parties.

I understand, Denise. I have progressed beyond being a party animal, and certainly avoid opportunites for heavy drinking, these days. I have become a light weight, basically, but am not too upset about it!

I do like having folks around for tea, though!  Or a BBQ

Denise, yes, take something as well as the bottle.

You'll probably cause a blush, it's a nice gesture...!!!   You'll probably find you get invited to another party after taking your flowers round..!!!

I took flowers and a bottle of White Zinfandel (its too hot for chocolates) - BBQ was great, had one glass of white wine and a mug of tea.

I will be the same at the christmas party one alcofrolic drink and then I will be on soft drinks for the rest of the night - I just can't stomach booze these days.

I had a great time Vicky and had a fabby time yesterday pottering around the oxfordshire countryside taking pictures of cows (I picked farm animals out of the hat as things to photograph), I took pictures of other things too including a rusty door knocker and a distress parking sign.
