eCourse....

07 Jul 2010 at 22:20 Douglas said ....

Hello GOYA'Ns.

many of you probably know that I do a little bit of this and that from time to time.

I've put a thread on 4N about an eCourse for Facebook.

It's not a pitch, but it is a delivery of structured, informative information via email.  I'm delivering it using some classic email marketing techniques and probably going to be using a format that some people will not have seen before at a small business level (I'm not sure whether this is mainstream within 4N)

If anybody is interested in talking to me about this, let me know.

I am writing the material at the moment and I can prepare some space to promote other peoples activities too.  If you want some complimentary space alongside the delivery of the eCourse, let me know and I'll look at how to position you in the course.  Naturally, as I design emails for a living I will be designing an email specifically for the delivery of the content.

I will leave it for people to step forward.  I'm having a play at being a "social networker".

Here is the note on 4N, canvessing for interest:
http://www.4networking.biz/forum/6/66933.htm

The articles are also going to Les for publishing in his magazine.  My intention is to raise awareness for some of the new service DS is delivering.  I am quite happy to raise awareness of anyone else too.

Your input would be much appreciated.

If you want in, just let me know.   Might be suitable for (1) SM people, (2) Trainers, (3) Email Marketers, (4) Photographer people or anyone doing anything similar.  No charge, just networking.  The course will be made available via my own channels too, so it will continue after the initial delivery.

PS.  I might even tweet it.  But I doubt it (certainly not from my personal account)

Hi Vik,

Ooo great.   You're welcome to sign-up,  it will probably be ready some time soon.

I was asking the GOYA'Ns whether they wanted some space... the more people it reaches the better.

Here is the format...

  • Day 1 - The social process of setting up a fan page
  • Day 2 - The importance of Fan Pages
  • Day 3 - Facebook as a Communications Channel
  • Day 4 - Importance of Fan Page customisations
  • Day 5 - The variety of customisations that are possible
  • Day 6 - What is a Fan and what defines a Fan
  • Day 7 - Inviting customers to become fans
  • Day 8 - What it means to engage on a Fan Page
  • Day 9 - The importance of keeping your cool
  • Day 10 - What to do if you’re really stuck

Was wondering if people wanted space, links next to any of the course content.  It touches on some quite detailed marketing topics.  You'll have to work out what's suitable for you.  I'm quite open about it....  so please tell me if you want some space next to a particular day.

It's looking good, so I'm wondering why the hell I'm giving it away, but that's social media for you I suppose...!!!!

People that take part in the course will be able to opt-in to get updates of new pages that we do (or something like that - it should help launch new pages too).  It should be quite good.  I just hope the two people I've sent it off to for checking like it.  Oooch - I hate big group things....!!!

What do you think to the content?

Looks good.

This is fab. There some quality actionable stuff in there. For beginners and people with some knowledge.

Giving away stuff on social media for free is really important as you get market presence. You definately know your onions

Hi Vik,

I'm learning to say things like "if you say so" - I'm told it sounds better online, than "yes, I do" does on the phone.  You'll have to bear with me as I practice swapping hats.  I have to say it's a very difficult hat to wear.  Talking online in a social capacity is weird, but there you go - we're all learning.

Am going to enjoy saying "am totally chuffed you like my onions.", but we will wait until the course is ready.

Generally, it's aimed at two groups:
1. Those who haven't started
2. Those who cocked it up

I fear the latter group is bigger than the first.

For those who know what they're doing, I look forward to givnig them a quick refresher course.   It's a win win.

Quoting Amanda ...

 There are some idiots online...

People are online - many ordinary people trying to get on with things.

I've come across some right idiots...   kinda like people who love wasting your time and don't really give a crap.  I can honestly say that my experience online has largely suffered from odd balls having weirdo agendas that people are not upfront and honest about.  Twitter is the worst and forums even worst still - 4N is refreshing as people are prepared to meet.

Quoting Amanda ...

my skype is not listed in many places now as it ends up with oddballs calling me...

What do you expect?  My skype name is not me.  Neither is my Tweet name.  I've also got countless stories of people who are suffering from a kind of cyber attack.  One of the points on the eCourse makes a subtle reference about "not needing to be online yourself" - this is particularly true for FB because you can be 'represented'.

My office line is on Mon-Fri 9am to 5pm and funny enough, 'online people' don't like calling it....   for some reason they want to "follow / skype / this / that / the other"  I find that odd.  Very odd.

Loller Fox got me on skype.  I'm not actually very keen on it - my ID is totally something else, I would rather someone phones and then I can tell them to FO if need be.  This would be totally out of character, but I would tell an odd ball to sod off.  I've never quite understood why people are not either "selling" or "buying", WTF is "networking" and "chatting".   I will give out skype but only if asked for.  Interestingly when someone does make a point of making contact, it tends to be pretty normal.

Normality is defo on the phone and in person.

A lot of what you say Amanda I think relates to people "networking", hence why I've never bothered with it.  4N is proving different.  If it goes the other way, I'll just stop going and switch off to it.  Simple.

A trainer begged me to come on a Social Media course last year, I said:

it's okay "I'll screw it up for myself first and then I'll know what not to do".  I was pretty keen to do so.  My view is you can't play at these things and if you get a real poor teacher, you'll take it as gospell for ages.  If you want to really understand how to make the most of them, you either get someone who knows to takeover, or you jump in, fail quick and ride it out.

This space means different things to different people.

One persons answer is so different to anothers.  The point is there are so many different uses for these tools.

I suppose this is why I'm quite happy to ask people directly their opinions and see if there is anything real under the bonnet.

Great.

anyway, you've got some space in this eCourse to advertise what you're doing if you want it.

I really haven't the time to chew the fat - I like to respond to everything, but that's me, I'm personal with what I do.

I taught Childcare when the government wanted everyone to have a qualification. I was only just out of University a few years, but lots of childcare experience. However I was teaching people twice my age and twice my experience but less qualified. I was only 22 and learned good lessons from that experience.

Hi Vik,

sometimes it's really difficult "trying to work with others" - it's like pulling teeth...!!!

If you want to pre-read the course and consider where I might slot you in, PM me your email.  It would be great to get someone to review it, prior to opening the doors.

All 13 emails's that make up the couse are now ready.

PM me via 4N.
